Ancestry Library Edition Help

MARVEL, Maine's virtual library, subscribes to Ancestry Library Edition of Ancestry, not the individual subscription version located at ancestry.com. When in doubt, please direct users to MARVEL and select "Ancestry Library for use within public libraries".

For public libraries, there is no remote access and must be used within the library. The authentication method is based on the libraries' local IPs registered with the vendor.

When at a public library, you should see the name of your library in the upper side of interface along with a search interface. If that is not the case, your IP has changed and needs to reported to us via the Marvel contact us form. For libraries on a non-MSLN connection, your IPs are mostly dynamic, meaning that if you lose power or if the modem is rebooted, a new IP will be assigned and you will lose access to AncestryLibrary. So please recheck access to this resource when this occurs. Some ISPs will provide a static IP if you ask them. Some will charge a monthly fee to have this.

If you lose your connection or have any questions or other problems with AncestryLibrary, please contact the InfoNet staff via their online contact form.

AncestryLibrary is also available to active faculty, staff and students at academic libraries. Remote access is available if the academic school's authentication system handles such.

Please note: when using AncestryLibrary, the "powered by ancestry.com" logo located at the bottom right of every web page, will direct users to ancestry.com, which will the ask them to purchase an individual subscription, so something to be aware of and to not click on it.
