Through the auspices of sponsors, which include the Governors Office, Commissioners Ron Lavaglio, Lynn Duby and Janet Waldron, and the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), an interagency team has been assembled to review and analyze the integration of teleconferencing and video teleconferencing technologies into the State of Maines mainstream business practices. This integration is designed to take advantage of existing technologies and to pool resources throughout the State, to hold hearings, meetings, seminars and training via teleconferencing and/or video teleconferencing, in order to reduce travel costs associated with conducting State of Maine business. |
The team meets twice monthly, and its mission is to:
The CIO established an aggressive set of milestones and task completion dates, and the teams adopted work plan was submitted to him, the sponsoring commissioners, and the Governors Office on March 15th. In addition the team 1) has produced an initial geo-map of known existing teleconferencing and video teleconferencing sites (illustrates gaps in statewide coverage); 2) is compiling a listing of types of possible technologies to be evaluated; and 3) has begun constructing a matrix to define the appropriate use of each technology under certain circumstances and requirements.
The team also plans to establish an Intranet Web page that will show the work plan and the status of each item. This Web page will also include direct e-mail links to each of the primary team members, and provide an opportunity for other State employees to offer input and monitor team progress. Each team member has devoted many hours to this effort, and is committed to its productive and successful completion.
Watch for the Web page in the coming weeks. We encourage you to follow the Teams progress.
