Challenge for October

by Lester Dickey

My son Jon just bought a house. He decided to erect a straight fence along his yard to keep his children from getting into the road. "You planned to have the fence posts five feet apart," his wife Sara said, "but you’ve got them more than that." Jon replied "I didn’t think you’d notice, but I was four posts short, so they had to be seven feet apart to do the job." How long is the fence?

Please e-mail Lester Dickey with your answer and your name, phone number, and the organization for which you work. Or call Barbara Buck at 624-9501. The winner will be drawn from all the correct entries and will receive a FREE pizza from Spanky's Pizza. All answers must be in no later than the 14th of the month.

Last month's challenge brought 19 answers, of which 17 were correct. The winner is Charlie Anderson of CSC Audit Division, chosen by random drawing from the correct answers.

The answer to last month’s Challenge is: I had in mind 10 sequential numbers, but a few people interpreted the question in a way I didn’t think of, so I allowed 11 or 13 sequential numbers. The 10 are: 1234, 123, 210, 234, 321, 345, 432, 456, 543, 654.
