| Volume VI, Issue 12 | December 2003 |
On December 6, 2003 the Maine State Museum will open a new exhibit called "Soaring Imagination" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk. It will feature a full-size replica of a glider made in 1911 by a 17 year-old boy from Lewiston named Harold Cooper that will hang in the Museum atrium. It will also include the tail section from the original glider, as well as artifacts from the Maine State Museum, Library and Archives relating to the early days of flight in Maine. The tail section and other artifacts will be on view from December 6, 2003 through May 1, 2004. The replica glider itself will remain on view for several years. See http://www.maine.gov/museum/whatsnew/index.html for more information.
