Secretary of State’s Total UCC Solution Wins National eGovernment Award!

by Tim Poulin

Of the 252 eGov service nominations from across the nation, the Maine Secretary of State's Total UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) Solution has won a 2003 eGov Pioneer Award. This esteemed award from the Government Solutions Center, honors Maine as a leader in eGovernment. "On-line service has meant improved customer service and efficiencies for the Division," says Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky. The Total UCC Solution allows subscribers, and one time credit card users, to search and file all UCC documents and images, and order certified copies on-line "With an 87% reduction in photocopies, paper mailings, and data entry, we’ve realized real cost savings," says Julie Flynn, Deputy for the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions.

The 87% adoption rate within its first year attests to the application's service excellence. Banks, lending institutions, creditors, businesses and individuals are finding that the Internet service is convenient and saves time, as compared with the conventional counter/mail service. Filings and searches are instantaneous. The connection between the user and the agency’s data system allows for faster filing, and instant search results. No more waiting for the mail. Plus there are no additional fees to expedite delivery, or for longer search results. You may visit the Total UCC Solution at: http://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/ucconline/.

Pioneer Award and other winners are invited to showcase their electronic government programs at the annual EGov Conference. For more information about this year’s EGov Conference, visit http://www.e-gov.com/events/2003/egov/. The event will be held June 9-12 in Washington DC.

The Total UCC Solution is developed, hosted and maintained in partnership with InforME. The Division of Corporations and InforME have brought additional services to the Web, including Corporations Search and Annual Report filings.
