On October 2, Ellen Lee and Dick Hinkley, BIS Director, presented to Cabinet members an overview of network plans and growth. Usage and growth, as summarized in the table, has soared during this administration with dependence on the network by the States business functions becoming the norm. "Devices per Site" has seen a major decrease over the years as recognition that even the smallest of state locations (ie District Courts, MDOT Maintenance Sites) require access to client/server and web-based applications deployed on the wide area network. Because of this growth and because of ever increasing demands for e-government and related services, plans for improved network performance, capacity, reliability, and manageability are well underway.
