Information Regarding BCBSA Data Breach

The Bureau of Insurance (BOI) was notified about a data breach affecting approximately 6,334 of Anthem’s Maine health care providers on October 26. The data breach was not at Anthem. We are working with Anthem to ensure proper response by the company. We will continue to monitor the situation vigilantly. The following steps are being taken to assist providers.

BCBSA is offering affected providers free credit monitoring for TWO YEARS provided by ConsumerInfo.com, an Experian company. (BCBSA had originally offered one year of protection.)

The 12-month Triple Alert membership includes:

  • Daily monitoring and timely alerts of key changes to credit reports – providers will be notified of activities such as new inquiries, newly opened accounts, delinquencies, public records or address changes.
  • Toll-free access to a dedicated team of Fraud Resolution Representatives who will help resolve problems associated with credit fraud or identity theft; contact credit grantors to dispute charges, close accounts if necessary, compile documents, and contact all relevant government agencies.
  • $25,000 in identity theft insurance coverage with zero deductible provided by Virginia Surety Company, Inc. for eligible theft expenses.

Maine providers with questions can contact Provider Service at 1-800-832-6011.

  • Provider service representatives have been provided frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) and have been directed to provide assistance to any provider calling with questions.
  • BCBSA has identified Angela Harris at angela.harris@bcbsa.com or Debra Riebling at debra.riebling@bcbsa.com for unanswered provider questions.

Providers who wish to contact the regulatory agency should contact Glenn Griswold at the Bureau of Insurance, 800-300-5000.
