Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Announces Second Recount Resulting from June 10 Primary Election
Augusta- Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said today a recount has been requested by Green Independent write-in candidate William S. Linnell of Portland, in the race for Cumberland County Commissioner in that county’s First District, will begin Friday, June 20, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters, located at 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta. District 1 in Cumberland County includes the towns of Yarmouth, Portland, Long Island, Chebeague Island, Cumberland and Falmouth.
“Mr. Linnell needed to receive 100 votes in the June 10 Primary in order to be nominated and to get his name on ballots in November for the position of County Commissioner. The unofficial Election Night tally indicated he received 39 votes," said Dunlap.
The recount begins with a review of the ballots cast in Yarmouth. The Yarmouth ballots were already in State custody for a separate recount, in the race for the Democratic Party’s candidate nomination in House District 107, which is comprised of the town of Yarmouth.
