Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Announces Expansion of Online Services for Notaries Public

Augusta- Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap says a new suite of services now available online represents “a major step forward for Notaries Public. We’ve made it easier than ever for a Notary Public to complete a Notary Public Law and Practices Knowledge Examination required for renewing their Notary Public Commission. Taking this exam is more than just recommended, it’s the Law here in Maine,” Dunlap explained, stating “This means Mainers can be certain that all Notaries Public who are properly registered with the State have a thorough understanding of Notarial practices, and the laws which govern the services they provide. When a Notary completes their examination, they can download 3 key items: a renewal application, their oath of office, and instructions for successfully completing the renewal process.”

According to Timothy Poulin, Director of the Division of Corporations,UCC and Commissions within the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions, “The renewal service is a great asset for Notaries across the state, but it’s not the only new service we’re rolling out. From now on, Notaries will be able to update contact information, including their location and phone number. They can also provide updated email addresses, and even information about fluencies in foreign languages. By allowing Notaries to update key info about themselves, the new services also benefit the public, by making a Notary Public easier to find than ever before. That’s why we call it the Total Notary Solution.” The new website can be found here:

“These new services are a prime example of my Department’s commitment to helping Maine residents,” Secretary Dunlap said, continuing,  “whether it’s an online search for a nearby Notary Public, renewing driver licenses and vehicle registrations, or shopping for a piece of Maine’s history at the State Archives online store, the Department of the Secretary of State continues to expand our online offerings,  making doing business with the State of Maine easier and more convenient than ever before.”
