Bureau of Motor Vehicles Announces New Location for York Mobile Licensing Unit
Several Changes Affecting Mobile Unit Locations in York County
Augusta- Deputy Secretary of State Catherine Curtis of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced the mobile license unit, now making regular visits to the town of York, will be operating from the new American Legion Hall location at 9 Hannaford Drive starting in the month of October. “Our mobile unit, which renews existing driver licenses and issues state ID cards, has been at the American Legion Hall for several years,” Curtis said, adding, “as the American Legion relocates to a new facility, we’re happy to announce our mobile unit will relocate with them.”
The BMV mobile unit will be at the new location for the first time on Thursday, October 23. After that, the mobile unit will visit the York American Legion Hall once each month. The schedule calls for the mobile unit to visit York on Thursdays following the third Tuesday of every month, from 8:30 am to noon, and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the afternoon. “We’re excited about this,” Curtis explained, “as the new location offers easy accessibility for everyone, and that’s what the mobile units are all about.”
Additionally, the mobile unit ceased operations at its’ South Berwick location in June. To help offset any issues related to that change, the mobile unit added an additional day of operations at its’ Kittery location. The mobile unit now visits the Kittery site every third Tuesday of the month and the following Wednesday, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00pm.
The mobile unit isn’t the only option in the region. People can still visit the BMV’s Springvale Branch Office located at 456 Main St. from 8:00am to 4:30pm, or the Kennebunk Branch Office located at 63 Portland Rd., from 8:00am to 4:30pm (excluding holidays). A detailed list of hours of operation and locations can be found on line at: http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/locations/index.html
Curtis also noted, “The relocation of mobile unit operations in York isn’t the only change on tap. Friday, September 5, will be the last day we conduct driver license exams at South Berwick’s First Parrish Federated Church. Starting next Wednesday, September 10, all driver license exams will be conducted at a new location--71 Norton Street in South Berwick. The demand for exams in this area remains high, and so does our commitment to providing this service locally.”
