Recount of State Senate District 2 Completed

Nass remains victor after ballots recounted


Augusta- The Secretary of State's office has completed a requested recount of ballots cast in the race for State Senate District 2 on Tuesday, November 4. Richard Burns of Berwick, the Democratic candidate, had requested the recount in his race against incumbent State Senator Richard Nass, a Republican from Acton. The original tally on Election Night indicated Nass prevailed, 10,707 votes to 10,322 votes. The result of the recount reaffirmed the Nass victory, with 10,786 votes for Nass to 10,352 for Burns. 

There are 6 other recounts to be conducted in the coming days. The next recount will be in the race for State Senate District 15, between incumbent Republican Lois Snowe-Mello and Democratic challenger Deborah Simpson. The tally on Election Night indicated  Simpson prevailed, 10,019 votes to 9,917 votes. This recount will take place Friday, November 14 at 9:00 a.m., at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters, 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta.
