Recount Requests in Two House Districts Withdrawn

Augusta- Two candidates for the Maine House of Representatives, who had earlier requested recounts in their respective races, have now officially withdrawn their recount requests.

In House District 21, Democratic challenger Ruth-Marie Spellman of Brewer has officially withdrawn her request for a recount of ballots cast in her race against Republican Michael Celli of Brewer. Preliminary results indicated Celli was the winner, 2,457 votes to 2,388 votes for Spellman.

In House District 105, incumbent Republican Michael Vaughan has officially withdrawn his request for a recount of ballots in his race against Democratic challenger David Van Wie of New Gloucester. Preliminary results indicated Van Wie was the winner, 2,797 votes to 2,712 votes for Vaughan .

There are three other recounts remaining to be conducted. The schedule for those recounts is as follows:

  • Wednesday, November 19, 9 a.m.: Oxford County Commissioner District One - Charleen Chase (D) and Steven Merrill (R)
  • Thursday, November 20, 9 a.m.: Oxford County Register of Probate - Tom J. Winsor (R) and Bruce A. Rood (D)
  • Friday, November 21, 9 a.m.: State Senate District 19 - Paula Benoit (R) and Seth Goodall (D)

All recounts will be held at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters located at 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta .
