Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. Informed of Central Voter Registration System Breach

AUGUSTA, Maine – Secretary of State Charlie Summers has been informed that the Central Voter Registration (CVR) application has been compromised.

“Shortly after noon today, the Office of Information Technology informed the Secretary of State that they had obtained information from the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team that the CVR application had been breached through a computer that was infected with malware located in one of our town offices,” said Secretary Summers.

“I am in the process of assessing what, if any, information has been compromised.  I have taken immediate action to shut this computer down and disable the username and password assigned to the town clerk.  I will keep the press updated with information as it is made available to me.”
