Secretary of State’s Office to Participate in National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
AUGUSTA, MAINE – Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. has announced that the Department of the Secretary of State will be participating in the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 28, 2011.
Employees from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Corporations, Elections, and Commissions, and the Maine State Archives are encouraged to bring their children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews, between the ages of 9 and 15, to work with them for the day. Students will be given the opportunity to shadow their parent or relative as well as learn about career opportunities in other areas of public service.
“I encourage both students and employees to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity it allows adults to show the young people in their lives some of the possibilities available to them as they begin to think about their own futures,” Secretary Summers said.
The National Bring Our Daughters and Sons to Work Program, in its 19th year, is dedicated to giving young people insight into the chosen careers of their parents and mentors as well as inspiring them to consider where their own path may lead. This year’s theme is “Invent the Future.” In keeping with this theme students will learn how technology has progressed in Maine State Government over the last 30 years.
