LMF Releases 2009 Progress Report to the Legislature

Over the past two years LMF assisted in the conservation of more than 54,000 areas of Maine’s best conservation, recreation and farmlands bring the total acreage of lands conserved in Maine with LMF support to 498,000.   Fifty six transactions were completed including seven farms, eight water access sites, and three working waterfront facilities along with dozens of recreation and conservation projects.   Projects were completed in 14 counties.   While 67 projects are still underway with the proceeds of past bonds, the program has committed virtually all available conservation and farm funds.

Land Conservation Funding Sources

Pursuant to Resolves 2007, c. 108, the State Planning Office has compiled this list of state and federal programs that award grants, provide matching funds or otherwise financially assist with efforts to conserve land for public recreation.  While not all the programs below are focussed exclusively on recreational uses, their assistance may be possible depending on the particulars of the project in question. Working Waterfront Pilot Access Protection Program

Through a competitive application process matching funds are available to assist commercial fisheries businesses, co-ops, municipalities and other interested parties in securing strategically-significant working waterfront properties to protect vital resources that support commercial fisheries. Funds can be used to purchase property, or for the purchase of access easements, rights of way, or development rights to preserve walk-in or small boat access, properties entirely dedicated to commercial fisheries uses, or mixed use properties. For application deadlines and more information, visit the program website at: www.wwapp.org.
