Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. Thanks Maine Businesses that Now Accept Driver’s Licenses/IDs with Military Service Designation as Proof  of Status for Military/Veteran Discounts

AUGUSTA, Maine – This Veterans Day Secretary of State Charlie Summers would like to remind Mainers about the new Military Service Designation available for Maine driver’s licenses and ID.  The designation features a Field of Stars backdrop for the identification photo and is currently available to eligible Maine veterans and military service members at all Bureau of Motor Vehicle locations. 

The Military Service Designation was made possible by a bill, introduced by Senator David Trahan R-Waldoboro, which was passed by the 125th Legislature and signed by Governor LePage earlier this spring.  

The following Maine businesses will now accept driver’s licenses and IDs with the Military Service Designation as proof of status for military/veteran discounts:

Big Rock Ski Area, Mars Hill

Broadway Hardware, Bangor

Capitol Computers, Augusta

Chipmunk Mini-Storage, North Yarmouth

Corson's Auto Supply, Rockland

Curves of Gardiner, Vassalboro

Discount Tire & Alignment, Camden

Expert Tire Service, Augusta

Fabian Oil, various locations

Funtown/Splashtown USA, Saco

Highway Tire Inc, Caribou

Kennebec Valley YMCA, Augusta

Lowe’s – various locations (Applies to veterans discount available on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and the 4th of July)

Majors Furniture & Appliance, Farmingdale

Maine State Parks and Historic Sites, various locations

Penobscot Bay YMCA, Rockport

Sullivan Tire & Auto Service, Bangor

Sugarloaf – Carrabassett Valley (active military only)

“I am very pleased that we are able to offer this designation to our veterans and military personnel to recognize their invaluable service to our country,” said Secretary Summers.  “I would like to thank all of the businesses who have agreed to accept the Military Service Designation in providing discounts to Maine veterans and members of the armed services.”
