Records Management - State Government
Records Management provides assistance to State Agencies in the effective management of their records. Each agency should have an appointed Records Officer, familiar with their agency records and trained in records scheduling, the retention, packing and transmittal of records. Before an agency can send records to the Records Center or Archives, they must have an approved schedule in place.
The Records Center provides safe, environmentally controlled storage for agency records that must be temporarily retained. To retrieve materials, a cardholder from the requesting agency must place the requestand are normally retrieved within 24 hours; earlier for emergencies. Large reference activities are conducted by agency personnel themselves at the Records Center or Archives. Transmittals (sending in your records) are filled in the order in which they are received and can take 2-4 weeksfor materials to be picked up once transmittals are received.

Imaging Center and Graphics Studio
The Imaging Center provides copies (both scanned and photographic) of records from Maine State Archives holdings. Large format items, such as maps, may also be reproduced. It also serves as a standards resource for microfilming throughout state government, including the certification of potential vendors of microfilming services.
